United States envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Moscow later on Thursday to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine, he told an audience at the World Economic Forum.
“I think we’ve made a lot of progress,” Witkoff said, adding that negotiations were down to one last issue.
“So if both sides want to solve this, we’re going to get it solved,” Witkoff told the audience in Davos.
He added that the creation of a tariff free zone in Ukraine would be “game changing” for the country’s economy.
The Kremlin said on Thursday it appreciated Witkoff’s diplomatic efforts to end the Ukraine war but declined to comment on his stated optimism that a deal is close.
Witkoff and Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, are due to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow later on Thursday.
The Kremlin said it would give a briefing afterwards.
