US president Donald Trump said the whole world is looking at the opportunities available in the Gulf countries during the US-Gulf summit in Riyadh on Wednesday.
Trump said the US was exploring the normalizing of relations with Syria's new government following his meeting with the country’s new Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa earlier on Wednesday.
Trump said he agreed to meet with Al-Sharaa after being encouraged to do so by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The president also pledged to lift yearslong sanctions on Syria.
He also said in the future the US would continue to add more countries to The Abraham Accords.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman commended the US decision to lift the sanctions of Syria and affirmed Saudi Arabia's position in continuing efforts to help resolve Ukraine crisis.
Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) began arriving in Riyadh early on Wednesday to attend the Gulf-US Summit.
Bahraini King Hamad Al Khalifa said he appreciated Trump’s announcement from Riyadh to lift sanctions on Syria.
The Emir of Kuwait said Kuwait seeked to achieve a strategic partnership with the US, but stressed the the necessity to establish a Palestinian State based on the Arab Peace Initiative.
Oman expressed its concerns on the humaniatrian crises in Gaza and thanked Trump for his role in Yemen to secure the commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
