Israeli ambassador threatens to kill Hamas leaders in future

The Israeli ambassador to the United States said that if Israel's airstrike in Qatar on Tuesday failed to eliminate senior Hamas leaders, future attempts would be made. The strike has sparked international concern over its potential to derail ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

“Right now, we may be subject to a little bit of criticism. They’ll get over it. And Israel is being changed for the better,” said Ambassador Yechiel Leiter during an appearance on Fox News’ “Special Report” program on Tuesday evening.

The airstrike, reportedly targeting Hamas political leadership in the Qatari capital Doha, marked a significant escalation in Israel's military activity beyond Gaza. The United States described the operation as a unilateral move that does not support ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two allies.

Qatar has been playing a key role as a mediator in ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel, making the strike particularly sensitive.

“If we didn’t get them this time, we’ll get them the next time,” Leiter added.

According to Hamas, five of its members were killed in the strike, including the son of exiled Hamas leader and senior negotiator Khalil Al-Hayya. The group stated that its top leadership survived the attack.
