Hamas welcomes US President Trump’s Gaza peace plan, requests clarifications

Hamas has responded to US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, it said in a statement released on Friday, accepting some points but requesting additional clarifications on others.

The group said it would agree to release all Israeli hostages, both living and dead, and affirmed that it was ready to immediately engage, via mediators, to discuss the plan.
Hamas also said it would agree to hand over rule of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body made up of independent technocrats. Hamas said it welcomed and appreciated efforts by Arab, Islamic and international actors, including Trump.

No mention was made of disarming in the statement, which stated that the group was ready to immediately enter negotiations to discuss the details.

Senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk then told Al Jazeera that the group would not disarm before the Israeli “occupation” ends, adding the issues over Gaza’s future should be discussed within a comprehensive Palestinian national framework which Hamas will be part of.

Trump earlier Friday provided a deadline for Hamas to answer by Sunday or else “all HELL” would break out.
